Many thanks to the members who helped out at last Friday's Westgate Elementary Science Fair. Here's a review from Emily M:
Hi, folks. Here are a few pics from Friday's Westgate Elementary school science fair. Layton H. had many students and adults impressed with our junior member's outstanding rock and fossil collection. Howard's bug collection was a huge hit, with his many specimens of butterflies, moths, spiders and beetles, as well as his collection tools and mountings in process. It was a busy two hours, but it went quickly! Howard's coprolite got the expected response/squeals, and the shiny lure of pyrite were sure hits with the kids. That's the way it goes when rockhounds get to share favorite collecting locations, and to talk about the interesting finds in our displays. Flyers were picked up for both upcoming August sale and the November show. There were nice compliments from previous visitors on our shows, and there was a lot of interest expressed from others to visit as we talked of our club collecting trips and our active lapidary shop.

This just in, from Chris Herter: "I got a call from Howard Boswell this evening. The Science Department at Westgate Elementary School (9601 - 220th, just off 205th) wants us to set up a display on Friday, Feb 10th at 5:30 pm. They're giving us the whole library, so let's see if we can get a bunch of members to bring in their goodies. Could you put out a member-wide email giving the details and maybe put a note on our awesome web page?"

Lookee here - a new website! This is the new and improved website for Maplewood Rock & Gem Club, a non-profit commuinity-oriented club which strives to discover, educate, enjoy and appreciate the earth sciences of geology, fossils, minerals, gemstones and the lapidary arts.
For the moment, please consider this site to be still under construction, and there is much fine-tuning to do. If you come across any broken links or have other suggestions as to what this site might be missing, please contact Admin --> info@maplewoodrockclub.com

We need articles for both the website and the newsletter! Wouldn't it be wonderful to see your trip report, photos included, posted here for all to see? Please send any submissions to the above email address, with "site submission" in the subject line. After all, the club wouldn't be what it is without you, it's trusty members... |
