conditions. If you're contacting the trip leader to sign­up, you must print a copy of the agreement, sign it, and bring this with you on the day of the trip to

participate. Individuals who have not met liability waiver requirements by completing one of the above will not be allowed to attend the trip. Please read

the Field Trip Procedures and Operations page. This summary contains basic information that each attendee must know before each trip.


This is a light CLASS 3 Trip: less than a mile hike in, but it is a long mile on the way out with 25lbs of rock. There is about a 350 foot elevation change

from the parking lot to the canyon floor.



Material: Sky blue agate, some with pink orbicular inclusion. Seam Agate. Decent quality red jasper as well as lower quality pieces of many other

colors (green and purple most common). Small geodes in host rock. Lots of pretty stuff to be found!


PLEASE REMEMBER: A Communications radio IS MANDATORY FOR EACH CAR. They are available for less than $25 a pair on Amazon, and

at many local stores.


Departure: MEET at the SW corner of the Alderwood Target parking lot at 6:45 AM on April 25th.

Itinerary:

  • 6:45 AM Meet at Southeast corner of the Alderwood Target parking lot.
  • Note that if all signed­up attendees are present, we will depart early.
  • 7:00 AM Depart promptly as a group (95.1 miles 2.5hr drive time)
  • 8:30 AM Arrive at Sedro Wooly for snack/bathroom break
    • NOTE: There are no bathroom facilities or water sources at the collecting site.
  • 9:00 AM Depart for Mt. Baker
  • 10:00 AM Arrive at Baker Hot Springs
  • 10:15 AM Depart for Rainbow creek

  • 10:45 AM Arrive at Rainbow creek
  • 3:45 PM Depart for Home
    • NOTE: On the way down the mountain Boulder Creek has small geodes and other stuff. Grandy creek has Jade, Olivine, and other stuff. Both spots you just walk the creeks.
  • 7:00 PM Arrive at Point of departure

Equipment list:

EACH VEHICLE MUST HAVE A RADIO TO ATTEND THIS TRIP.

  • Hiking Boots (tennis shoes will be tough here if the trail isnt dry)
  • First Aid kit
  • Extra food and water for a day
  • Change of clothing
  • Large and Small Garden Shovel and rake
  • GeoPaleo Pick or pick axe
  • Large Lowes/Home Depot bucket or backpack
  • At least 2 liters of water
  • Garden Gloves
  • Sturdy jacket/cold weather clothing
  • Safety glasses
  • Food and snacks for the afternoon

REMEMBER: You can collect 25 pounds of rocks (that's about 3/4 bucket full) plus one other item of any size, per day.
